Leather CareUpdated 16 days ago

Leather products are known for their resilience. When treated properly, they will last for years.

How To Store Leather

You’ll need to be careful about the conditions that you are storing your leather in.

Here are some of the things that you should be looking for:

Lack of sunlight. This can cause discoloration.

If you are storing them for a long time, use boot shapers. This ensures that they retain their shape. Alternatively, you can roll up and put some newspaper into the boots.

Store them in a humid environment. This stops them from drying out. Usually, the ideal humidity will be around 40 percent.

Avoid extreme hot and cold temperatures. This can affect the shape of the boots too.

How To Clean Leather

There are a few steps that you’ll need to follow when cleaning a leather shoes.

First, you’ll want to remove the shoes laces if applicable. Often, you’ll be able to put these into the washing machine.

Rub the shoes with a soft cloth.

If some dirt is stuck to the shoe, use a boot brush to remove it.

You might need to use a mild soap for stuck-on dirt.

Once the shoes are dry, apply a conditioner.

In most cases, you’ll need to apply a conditioner every three months. In a dry climate, you’ll need to apply it every month.

How To Clean Synthetic Leather

Spot cleaning is the easiest way to clean synthetic materials on our boots. There are a couple of cleaning methods that can be used.

Method 1

Create a vinegar solution of equal parts cool water and distilled white vinegar. Take a clean cloth and blot the stain with the vinegar solution. Repeat (turning to a clean part of the cloth as you do) until the stain has gone. Allow shoes to dry completely.

Method 2

Wet a microfiber cloth with cool or warm water. Never use hot water. Squeeze out excess water until the cloth is damp. Wipe or lightly scrub the stain. Allow shoes to dry completely.

Once you have cleaned the shoes, you can waterproof them to lessen the likelihood of quickly soiling again.

*As with all products being used on your shoes, always spot-check the substance you will be using before applying it to the entire shoe just in case you are not happy with how the substance may alter the look of your shoe.
